20th May 2022

It has been a very busy couple of months. Above is the proposed front elevation for a relocation of an existing restuarant business currently in the planning phase. Ballinakill Community Development Association opened their new playground. BCF Architects are proud to have been involved and wish them the very best going forward.

Conservation grants were awarded to a number of our clients for their premises that included repairs and reinstatement works. BCF Architects were happy to help with the grant applications and supporting documents. Hopefully, these grants will see some of our older stock put back into everyday use.

A massive congratulations to Tara Swaby who completed 9, 5Km runs last weekend as part of a fundraiser for Down Syndrome Ireland Waterford & South Kilkenny Branch. This was part of a fundraiser called Run Ireland in 72 Hours which saw volunteers from the Saturday Road Runners Waterford complete a 5Km run in every county over one weekend. A fantastic feat and funds in excess of €41,600.00 raised.

Down Syndrome Ireland – Laois Branch is our chosen charity. It was brillant to run #9 with Tara in Portlaoise on Sunday evening. Pictured are Ellie, our beautiful daughter, her godmother Tara and myself. Thanks Ta for all your hard work and continued support.

St. Stephen’s Day Charity Game…

http://www.cuislecancersupport.com

It was great to get to play a game with my two brothers, something we have not done for a long time. It was a first to play with my nephew Cian. It was a great event, organised by Brian O’Sullivan, for the Cuisle Cancer Centre and Pieta House. It was nice to see so many friends enjoying a bit of fun while raising funds for two worthy and important charities.

Insurance Issues…….

Over the past number of months, it has been widely reported that professional indemnity insurance cover for fire & cladding related services will be excluded from the Irish market. A process that has already started when professional indemnity renewal is required. It is fully understood by BCF Architects that no fire related service can now be offered including accepting third party advice as part of a design, once the main consultant is engaged to sign off as the project lead. Without this much needed insurance cover, fire safety certificates cannot be prepared, submitted for approval and form part of the final design of any structure. This includes on-site supervision and inspection of any fire related product, device and signage. This exclusion now extends to projects previously carried out in the past 7 years also.

A quick response is needed from Government and the Insurance Sector or else the housing crisis will deepen. On the back of a pandemic and post Brexit, this is far from ideal and urgent action is required.

Our past week……

It was another busy week, with new applications lodged to the Local Authority, site surveys and certification for house sales. With the good weather our on-site projects are beginning to pop up over ground level. Post Brexit and Covid has led to clients and contractors experiencing problems sourcing materials with some advising of increased costs.

Presently, BCF Architects are working on improving our website so our page is currently offline. It is anticipated that the website will be back online by Friday 16th July 2021.

A good friend has retired from the public sector after 40 years of service. Once he puts away the pencils we will have a chat to discuss how the business has changed for him……………
